Residents Professional Ballet Dancers

Oksana Maslova

Oksana is from the Ukraine. She is a former soloist of the Odessa National Opera House and was a guest artist with Moscow Ballet. She is an international award winner. She danced in Europe, the United States and in Canada. Her early  engagements were with the Kiev Youth Ballet and the Suziriya Dance Theater. Her artistic development includes an early training in rhythmic gymnastics which  led to an intensive ballet program with Irina Sycheva, former ballerina of St. Petersburg Ballet. Maslova studied with great teachers and artists, including Anna Petrechuk, Nina Kosenko and Sergei Bondur.  In addition to a large classical repertoire: Nutcracker,  Swan Lake,  La Bayadère,  Giselle, Sleeping Beauty … she performs neoclassical and modern works. Maslova was a featured ballerina with the Grand Rapids Ballet and is currently a principal dancer with the Connecticut Ballet and resident principal dancer at the Academy of Dance and Creative Arts.

Ekaterina Smurova

 

Ekaterina born and trained in Russia, graduated with honors from the Kazan Choreographic School of Ballet. In her final year, she was selected to dance the lead in a new ballet, The Snow Queen, by Honored Artist of Russia Aleksandr Polubentsev. She went on to join the Staislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Moscow State Theater, where she quickly rose to the rank of soloist, appearing in Don Quixote, Nutcracker, Cinderella and Swan Lake. Ekaterina won bronze medal at the VK International Ballet Competition 2013. From 2011 Ekaterina is a resident principal dancer at the Academy of Dance and Creative Arts.

Anton Kandaurov

Anton born in Donetsk, Ukraine. He is a graduate of the Kiev State College of Choreography and is an award winner of the international competition “Youth Ballet 2002”. Kandaurov continued to study at the "HochShule fúr Musik und Theater in Zurich". His professional engagements began with the Croatian National Ballet, then the Kiev National Opera House Ballet. He was a soloist with the Kiev City Academic Theater and the Moscow Ballet Company which toured a great deal. In 2008, Kandaurov became a member of Grand Rapids Ballet Company, where he created the wonderful role of Sebastian of Shakespear’s Tempest. His rich repertoire includes the IXI century classics as well as neo classical works such as Balanchine’s "Who Cares". Anton is currently principal dancer with Connecticut Ballet and resident principal dancer at the Academy of Dance and Creative Arts.

 

Otar Khelashvili

 

Otar born in Tbilisi, Georgia. Graduated from Vakhtang Chabukiani State School of Ballet Art in 2005 and joined State Ballet of Georgia as principal dancer.
His repertory includes principal parts in classical ballets like Giselle, Swan Lake, The Nutcracker, Chopiniana, Raymonda, Don Quixote and others. He also danced leading roles in George Balanchine’s ballets and dance pieces of contemporary choreographers. From 2007-2013 Khelashvili participated in State Ballet of Georgia’s tours to the USA and Europe, as well as festivals of Spoleto and Jacob’s Pillow in the USA in 2007 and 2010, and Edinburgh in the United Kingdom in 2010. He has been awarded the Vakhtang Chabukiani Medal. From 2013 The Academy of Dance and Creative Arts invites Otar to join a company as a principal dancer.

 

Gvantsa Gavashelishvili

 

Gvantsa is from Tbilisi, Georgia. Graduated from Vakhtang Chabukiani state school of ballet art in 2004 and joined State Ballet of Georgia. Her repertory includes many solo and principal parts in classical ballets the Nutcracker, Swan Lake, Giselle, Raymonda, Romeo and Juliet. She danced in contemporary ballet of famous choreographers as George Balachine, Frederick Ashton, Jiri Kylian, Yuri Possokov and others. Gvantsa with State Ballet of Georgia took tours in the USA, Japan, Egypt, Belarus, Spain, Edinburgh international festival, Charleston festival of Spoleto and Boston Jacob's pillow festival. From 2013 she joined the Academy of Dance and Creative Arts as a principal dancer and teacher.
